NASHVILLE, TN (March 18, 2021) - Tomorrow, soul-pop/R&B artist Niki Tonik will release her new single, “Equinox,” a duet with TMGMusic, in line with the spring equinox that arrives on Saturday. PopDust recently premiered the song and raved that “‘Equinox's’ reverential tone towards spring is a refreshing and welcome burst of joy and optimism."

The new single floats between the lines of progressive pop and dream rock, much like Tonik’s recently-released album, Write On Time (October 2020), which featured jazz luminary Kamasi Washington.

“Lyrically, ‘Equinox’ centers around the changing of the seasons and the passing of time,” says Tonik. “Highlighting nature’s beauty, celebrating the elements, creativity and love. The spring equinox is the first day of the year where the hours of day and night are equal in length so it really represents balance, renewal and coming into full bloom like the flowers that appear after the rain.”

It has been said that life imitates art, but every so often an artist comes along who blurs the lines between the two so gracefully that they become one. Los Angeles-born and Mount Shasta-based, Niki Tonik doesn’t just make art, she lives it. “I’ve always had an appreciation for art and its many forms, and music especially is something that resonates very deeply with my soul,” says Niki. “Mount Shasta and L.A. are like Yin and Yang for me. They both fulfill and satisfy different areas of my life and needs for different reasons.” Write On Time marked the 10-track debut album and invitation to Niki Tonik’s musical art.

Somewhat of a musical unicorn, Niki draws inspiration from reflecting upon the different colors, feelings and themes of life. Write On Time specifically explored the duality of both Yin and Yang; the current state of affairs versus the higher states of consciousness that give hope to a waking world. “Equinox,” which musically leans towards progressive pop and dream rock, follows the same Yin and Yang thread established on the album.

“Living in and being from L.A. has probably unconsciously influenced my sound because of my exposure to so many incredible musicians, producers and artists, some of whom I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of working with,” says Niki. The company you keep lends itself to powerful collaborations and in Niki’s case, a track called “If The Moon Is On Fire” from Write On Time. “I met Kamasi Washington back in 2012 at the former Piano Bar in Hollywood where he, Miles Mosley, Tony Austin and Cameron Graves had a residency,” Niki reminisces. “Their live performances and musicianship were absolutely incredible and they blew my mind week after week. I sought out Kamasi, Miles and Tony to do a collab and the result of that ended up being on the album.”

The American-Israeli singer/songwriter’s silky vocals have drawn comparison to Sade from the likes of Babyface, who heard her tunes online and applauded the “richness and emotive tone color” and acknowledging her songwriting as being “excellent.”

Niki balances her time between writing and recording music and practicing Taoist Tonic Herbalism, a career that has inspired her name as well as her sound. “My passion for health, wellness and nutrition naturally carried over to the tonic herbs, and eventually so did my name as my experience with formulating, serving, and drinking Toniks--superfood tea lattes--grew and unfolded,” says Niki. She has curated Toniks and other wellness beverages for some notable vegan restaurants in L.A. such as Cafe Gratitude and Wild Living Foods. Niki has also served her Toniks to high-profile customers such as: Jason Mraz, Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Colin Farrell, Travis Barker, Tori Kelly, Randy Jackson, Michael Beckwith, Marianne Williamson, Cedric The Entertainer, Laila Ali, Tasha Smith and Rocco DeLuca.

“Equinox” is set for a March 19 release, in line with the spring equinox that arrives the following day.
