NASHVILLE, TN (DECEMBER 9, 2022) — New York-based duo, The Storm Windows are two veteran musicians — brothers Rob and Don Mathews — who have come together once again to form yet another unique and reimagined sound. Today, this band of brothers delivers the first look into their new Americana-infused rock record — fittingly titled Second Album (out Friday, March 3) — with the lead single, “A House Divided.”

Melissa Clarke with Americana Highways, who exclusively unveiled “A House Divided” earlier this week, praised the single saying: “Heavy electric roots underpin this thoughtful rock anthem.” The brothers told Americana Highways, “‘A House Divided’ is part folk ‘topical’ song, part rock anthem. We aspire to emulate our heroes in both categories. Whether it’s a statement on American (or worldwide) politics, or just the state of things in general, the listener can decide.”
Composed of Rob and Don Mathews, this true band of brothers decided to name the band in part as a tribute to one of their musical heroes, John Prine, “and in part as an appropriate description of some veteran musicians who have weathered a few storms but are still standing and singing about it,” shares Rob.
With an assortment of electric and acoustic songs, Second Album consists of six originals and four renditions. Including their characteristic road trip songs and love sonics (or rather love gone wrong), the album also acknowledges the current American landscape, conveying topical themes. “The record has an overarching theme of hope,” note Rob and Don. “We didn’t set out to make a statement, or concept album, but it partly came out that way. No one wants ‘hit-me-over-the-head’ protest songs anymore, so we’ve focused on universal themes – like just trying to be better.”
The Storm Windows are proficient in performing both as an original band and cover band. Following the method of their first album, they continued to choose songs from both categories on this record to showcase their strengths. Blending the established sounds of Americana with a pinch of classic rock, the duo uses their unique formula to give modish life to some traditional sounds. “Our songs take stock of the current American landscape. Rob resides in London part of the year, where he can view the American experience — for better or for worse — through an objective lens,” Don shares about their writing process. “We said our first album focused on the opportunity of the ongoing experiment, rather than its challenges, which we were saving for the second album. Well… here it is.”
The Mathews brothers conclude “when we record our originals, we debate over a classic versus contemporary sound. Where we land is we want something that twenty years from now, or even twenty years ago, still sounds timely.”
