NASHVILLE, TN (March 4, 2022) — Nashville-based emerging Americana artist Andy Kahrs has released his three-song EP, Together. The new EP addresses hardship, friendship and overall camaraderie.
Andy recently opened up to VENTS Magazine about his inspiration for the EP’s title: “The title came to me about a month after we finished recording and I was listening to the mixes over and over again. Broadly speaking, each song is about a different type of togetherness. ‘Everybody’s In Town’ is about friendship, ‘Alright’ is about romantic love, and ‘If You Love To Be Right’ is about coming together as people. Also, I’m a bit of an introvert who enjoys time alone. I am always trying to be aware of and remind myself of the overwhelming joy that springs from coming together.”
The EP’s first single “Everybody’s In Town,” a genuine upbeat bop and “feel-good song,” was exclusively premiered by Americana Highways. “Everybody’s In Town” acknowledges the comforting feeling of being with friends. Lyrically picturesque and gleeful, this melody propels the listener to cherish connection. “‘Everybody’s In Town’ is about the magic that comes when the stars align and you’re all together again, even if just for one night,” reflects Kahrs.
Highlighting his soulful vocal delivery, the sophomore single “Alright” is a rosy, lighthearted track that reminisces back to when Kahrs first moved to Nashville. The music video which was filmed at Nashville’s Sid Gold’s Request Room is depictive of Kahrs’ early days in Music City, cleaning houses just to make ends meet. This musically uplifting and lyrically hopeful single shines a light at the end of the tunnel.

The driving bluesy beat of “If You Love To Be Right” contains righteous lyrics with deep bass tones that add certainty to this sonic stance against judgment. The concluding track on Together, “calls out those who think they know what is best for others,” says Kahrs. “Our identities, including our gender and sexuality, are no one’s business but our own.” The standout lyric, “if you pledge to the land of the free, it’s mighty high time to let another be,” is a hard hitting statement for those who rush to judgment.
“Looking back, I think the start of the pandemic and quarantine led to a lot of reflection about who I am,” says Kahrs. “I shed some pressure to be everything as an artist, and got more in touch with my first love, the blues. That focus allowed me to see other influences, like country and bluegrass, as a seasoning to distinguish my sound.” These influences can be heard throughout the EP’s infectious bass lines, staple electric guitar licks and distinct charming vocals.
The road to long-term success has, of course, not been so linear. Kahrs grew up busking his songs on the streets of downtown Atlanta and spent years playing blues in bars across Southeast America. Ironically, a move to San Francisco shifted his sound further towards bluegrass and country as he felt his southern roots more deeply upon moving west. Kahrs played local bars over 200 nights a year to make ends meet in San Francisco, slipping in original tunes between crowd requests.
"There came a point when I realized these gigs were just never going to get me where I want to be. The less I felt able to truly express myself, the less fun I began having as an entertainer, which everyone in a room can pick up on,” admits Kahrs.
Kahrs finally made the move to Music City in 2018 and has since released two records: 2019’s acoustic Inside A Song and 2020’s Living The Dream. He states “Nashville was always in the back of his mind as the ultimate destination and the perfect place to grow and develop around like-minded people.”
Kahrs’ EP release show will be taking place tonight at Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge in Madison, TN.
