Re-recording songs that fans have loved for years can be a tricky proposition, but TEN to 1 strikes the perfect balance between fresh and familiar. It was a labor of love for Lonestar’s keyboardist Dean Sams, drummer Keech Rainwater, guitar virtuoso Michael Britt, and lead vocalist Drew Womack. As Forbes journalist Pam
Windsor recently remarked: “Lonestar is still going strong.”

After years of tailoring their songs to provide the optimal fan experience, Sams, Britt, Womack and Rainwater channeled that energy into these new recordings. “Over the years we have been playing these songs many times, we sort of gravitated to these live versions with longer solos, maybe a different kind of intro,” Rainwater says. “On ‘No News’ we sort of change things around a little bit to entertain our audience even more. We try to stay true to the meat of the song, but I think these versions are a little bit more reflective of what we do live and things we know sound good.” There’s something about combining nostalgia with innovation that turns a beloved memory into an engaging new experience. That’s the foundation for Lonestar’s TEN to 1 — giving fans brand new versions of the hits they have loved for years.

Sams is proud of how the current version of “No News” came together. “Michael just started playing this really weird guitar thing,” he explains. “It had a wah-wah sound to it with all this distortion because I told him I wanted to do something different for this intro to lead us into it. He started playing with the sound and so that aggressive sound that he found on his guitar led Keech to playing much more aggressive on the drums which I think made Drew sing a little more aggressive. The overall track kind of took this more aggressive approach.”
