NASHVILLE, TN (August 9, 2024) — Today, Yacht Rock Revue — the dynamic 10-piece ensemble deemed the “world’s premier soft-rock party band” by Rolling Stone — have released their new double single “Waves” and “Sail On,” giving another preview of their upcoming album, Escape Artist, which drops on Friday, November 29. As the band continues to redefine the limits of what a cover band can achieve, they are currently captivating audiences across the country on a massive 44-city tour supporting Train and REO Speedwagon on the “Summer Road Trip 2024 Tour.” In a recent interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Yacht Rock Revue’s Nicholas Niespodziani and REO Speedwagon’s Kevin Cronin shared their enthusiasm for the tour. Additionally, Yacht Rock Revue candidly opened up to V13 with an exclusive tour diary showcasing life on the road.

“Waves,” the A-side to this couplet, opens with a gentle breeze of synthesizers and a smooth, steady bassline — trademark sonics of the yacht rock genre. The band’s Kourtney Jackson delivers ethereal vocals which gracefully navigate lyrics about life’s ups and downs. This groovy, airy track feels like an effortless glide through a pastel sky, with playful yet unobtrusive guitar melodies and an unhurried rhythm. “‘Waves’ is close to the emotional center of Escape Artist,” shares Yacht Rock Revue’s Nicholas Niespodziani. “It was inspired by conversations with my daughter during the pandemic.”

“Sail On,” the B-side track, blends a Caribbean-inspired soft rock melody with an island ambiance. Peter Olson’s soothing vocals deliver “a collection of simple proverbs you probably learned in kindergarten,” he remarks. It’s the perfect soundtrack for drifting away and feeling the tranquility of the Caribbean. “When Peter first brought ‘Sail On’ to the studio, it had a different tempo and feel,” explains Nicholas. “After recording that version, it didn’t quite fit the lyric’s vibe. Peter suggested trying it differently, so we reworked the chords and tempo until it felt natural. That second version made the record. I love the flute sauce that David poured on top.”

In addition to the Summer Road Trip 2024 dates, Yacht Rock Revue will have several headlining dates starting in September, including fresh shows at NYC’s The Rooftop at Pier 17, Stony Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, NJ, and Roadrunner in Boston, MA. Tickets go on-sale today at 10 a.m. local time. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.

Sarah Bahr of The New York Times reported her first-hand experience of Yacht Rock Revue’s liberating on-stage energy, observing fans who “danced for two hours to tunes from the 1970s and ’80s,” while Entertainment Weekly noted that “the shows tend to be unabashedly joyous affairs.”

The album’s lead singles, “Tropical Illusion” (A-side) and “Passengers” (B-side) debuted on May 24. Co-written by Elliot Lurie of Looking Glass and Nicholas Niespodziani of Yacht Rock Revue, “Tropical Illusion” pays tribute to Looking Glass’s 1972 hit “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl).” The sophomore singles, “Lost In The Meantime” (A-side) and “Steal Away” (B-side), were released on July 12. “Lost In The Meantime” combines a sensuous Bossa nova rhythm with modern remix beats, crafting a rich soundscape that captures life’s memorable moments. “Steal Away” offers a reimagined ukulele version of Robbie Dupree’s 1980 hit, showcasing an intimate rendition by Yacht Rock Revue’s vocalist Kourtney Jackson.

Escape Artist will be released in two parts: the A-side and B-side on September 6, and the C-side and D-side on November 29. This ambitious ode to yacht rock captures waves of emotion and transports audiences back to the sun-soaked anthems of the ‘70s and ‘80s. This 21-song concept album, spread across four vinyl sides, highlights the band’s evolution beyond a tribute act. It blends their unique style with the iconic yacht rock vibe, capturing the yearning to escape modern society and using music as a means to escape daily worries.
