NASHVILLE, TN (March 7, 2025) — Indie-pop artist Blue Monkey — the sonic alter ego of Charlee Remitz, lauded by LA Weekly, American Songwriter, and Alternative Press — has long crafted music that defies boundaries. Today, Blue Monkey announces their debut 11-track LP, Ageless, is set for release on Friday, June 6. A sweeping exploration of patience, freedom, and purpose, the album melds intricate lyricism, mesmerizing production, and evocative vocals into a genre-blurring journey through sound and storytelling.
Blue Monkey’s vision lives in the in-betweens, choosing beauty over labels and boxes: it’s indie that doesn’t stick to the script, ambient pop that refuses the gloss, along with a lyrical story that dives for the heart. A whimsical perspective on life has ignited more than just a revival of artistry; it has initiated a homecoming, encouraging a return to patience and advocating for a journey through life filled with joy rather than obligation.

With the album announcement, Blue Monkey unveils the uplifting sixth single, “Everything You Do Is Meant for You.” It’s an anthem for the dreamers who get knocked down, for the people who feel behind or ahead or perfectly in time. As Blue Monkey has experienced, life is not linear, but everything that happens is meant to be.

Blue Monkey shares, “Over the years, I’ve experienced an intentional softening. I was, at one time, deeply unaffected by my own life. I was harsh and cold, and I felt like things were happening to me without my consent. In time, I wandered into whimsy. I became gentle and soft, and it was all owing to an intuition that everything I’d been through, and every choice I’d made, whether divined, careless, impulsive, backwards, intentional, or reckless was meant for me and could be rebranded as such. That the best thing I could do for myself was to try things out and tangle with the world. That it was all giving me necessary information about my life, information I needed to be the truest expression of who I am.”
Blue Monkey continues, “There was no more intention behind announcing Ageless with ‘Everything You Do Is Meant for You’ than there was behind waking up this morning. The two are intrinsically connected, the same way depression dances with a sunny day and a walk around the neighborhood. One is a cure for the other. How do we become ageless? We deny time, we deny judgement, we live in one truth: that we’re right where we’re meant to be, when we’re meant to be there. In that, to be ageless is to be in an open rebellion against a world that wants us to believe resources are scarce, the only way to survive is to hoard our supplies, and time is running thin.”

Blue Monkey’s previous single, “Golden Rule” (Jan. 31), earned praise from Under the Radar, which noted: “‘Golden Rule’ sees Blue Monkey leaning into gentle, soft-focus folk pop, accompanying her lilting vocals with plaintive acoustic tones and feather-light harmonies.” The track also secured a spot on Apple Music’s “New in Alternative” playlist upon release. A poetic meditation on independence, the track embraces William Morris’ golden rule: keep only what is useful or beautiful. It applies this ethos to life and love, choosing everything — and everyone — not out of need, but for beauty and purpose. A liberating perspective, it challenges attachment and celebrates intentionality.

An unplanned discovery, Blue Monkey found a story at Skyline Lanes in Clarksville, TN. The documentary-style video captures the alley’s charm through its people — like owner Becky, who saved it from closure, and José, one of the last vintage Brunswick mechanics. A tribute to finding purpose in unexpected places.

In Blue Monkey’s universe, the boundaries between creator and creation dissolve, enabling art to flourish in its most genuine and primal form. Blue Monkey shares, “The moniker, in a way, removes the presence of impact, returning the art to its most primitive stages — creation, or else.” This signifies a break from rigid identities, inviting listeners to step beyond the limits of the self and delve into the essence of retaining childlike imagination, encouraging us to fully embrace our potential without the constraints imposed by society.
Blue Monkey (Chuen), the 11th sign of the Mayan Zodiac, symbolizes creativity’s birth, bridging past, present, and future. This persona emerged with “Pylons” (Aug. 16) and “Pretty Things” (Sept. 13). “Pylons” (a fitting 11:11 runtime) reflects Nebraska’s quiet beauty, while “Pretty Things” explores aesthetics’ transformative power. On November 22, the unvarnished “Common Enemies” arrived, unraveling the betrayal and competition lurking in friendships. It doesn’t shy from darkness—it embraces the rough edges where connection and resentment collide.
Blue Monkey is about refusing categorization, working in an indie-pop hybrid that feels limitless — a place where banjo riffs meet airy synths, and the result feels like it was always meant to be. The music becomes a release — a way for the artist to strip down identity, reinvent, and give listeners a way into that freedom, too. With vivid lyrics that invite listeners to question, reflect, and reclaim, Blue Monkey is carving out a space that’s wholly their own. Their work is a call to all who want to transcend boundaries — of genre, of self — to explore, play, and live without labels. As Blue Monkey continues to transform, they aspire for their music to serve as a permission slip for others to redefine their identities without boundaries.
