NASHVILLE, TN (December 15, 2023) — Today, Nashville’s country rock artist, Kelsey Hickman, unveils the poignant music video that complements her newly dropped single (Dec. 1), “LUVUH8U,” featured on her forthcoming five-track EP titled Lights Out. In this song, Kelsey continues to define her unique fusion of charming country twang and gritty rock edge as she emphasizes that the opposite of love isn’t hate but rather, indifference. “LUVUH8U” stands as an anthem for those navigating relationships treading the delicate line between love and hate.

“‘LUVUH8U’ is about that person you want to hate but you just can’t,” shares Kelsey. “Thinking the hard road will pay off in the end… it turns into not only a battle with the other person, but you end up looking inward at yourself,” she continues. “Why do we cause ourselves so much pain for love?”
Produced by Donn Miggs — renowned for collaborating with legendary artists such as Mick Fleetwood and Tower of Power — Lights Out, slated for release on Friday, February 16, pays homage to the impact of genuine, raw authenticity. Fueled by a purpose of inspiring listeners to feel comfortable embracing their feelings and not being afraid to “lose their shit” when necessary, Kelsey promises the EP to be a must-listen for fans of emotionally charged, country rock music.
“LUVUH8U” succeeds the release of “Love Is For Suckers,” (November 3) which found high praise from MXDWN being noted as “an ode to introspection with delightfully raw lyricism and impassioned vocals that will leave fans and critics alike wanting more.” Previously, the lead single “Novocaine” served as the formal introduction to Lights Out. Fueled by a dynamic fusion of genres, Kelsey has crafted a distinctive and invigorating sound that resonates with impactful drum beats and guitar riffs that hit you to the core.
After a tenure with midwest band Still Kickn’ — which gave her the opportunity to open for Lady A, Montgomery Gentry, Easton Corbin & Tracy Lawrence — Kelsey began her journey as a solo artist in 2013 when the band decided to part ways. She shared her first full-length solo country album, Gypsy, in 2016. Teaming up with GRAMMY®-nominated producer Kent Wells and songwriter Bill DiLuigi, she proved her talent and potential on the album.
In the subsequent years, her affection for rock ‘n’ roll, combined with her country roots, prompted her to embrace her rebellious spirit and transform her musical style. By 2022, Kelsey underwent a revitalization of her country rock sound when she teamed up with Don Miggs. With Miggs’ assistance, she not only reinvented but also polished her sound, infusing it with a contemporary edge and authenticity that is bound to resonate with fans.
