NASHVILLE, TN (December 19, 2023) — Breakout country artist Shaylen announces her next single, “Been There Before,” a dynamic anthem for every girl in their 20s due for release on Friday, January 5. The song reflects on the ebbs and flows of dating and trying to find your perfect partner amidst all the chaos.

Co-written alongside Andrew Baylis (Jelly Roll, Sleeping With Sirens, Austin Snell), Michael Whitworth (Alana Springsteen, Lady A, Florida Georgia Line) and Nick Bailey (Demi Lovato, Machine Gun Kelly, Mat Kearney) Shaylen’s vocals are at the forefront as she gets it all off her chest in this cathartic track. “I finally got to write the dating anthem for my early 20s,” Shaylen boasts. “It was an incredible day working with some of my faves – Baylis, Michael and Nick are some of my favorite humans ever and creating this song with them was so fun. We literally just talked about all the crazy dating scenarios you go through as a girl in her early 20s and got to put it in one song. And that’s on healing toxic patterns baby!”

“Been There Before” arrives hot on the heels of Shaylen’s most recent single, the soulful ballad “Cowboys Never Cry” (November 10), and her collaboration with Austin John Winkler — former frontman of Hinder — for the release of the country-infused rendition ofLips Of An Angel” (August 29), whose music video now has over 1.4Million views.

With five acclaimed country singles released to date — “What If I Don’t,” Roots, Do It Right The First Time,Closest Thing To Closure” and  “Cowboys Never Cry” — Shaylen has earned her keep in the country scene.

Her most recent single, “Cowboys Never Cry,” paints a picture of heartbreak and longing for something that could’ve been so great but never got to be. Led by Shaylen’s powerful vocals while backed by pedal steel and nostalgic guitar riffs, the song guides the listener along with every note. “Making ‘Cowboys Never Cry’ was a very special day,” shares Shaylen. “The melodies, concept and the magic of my co-writers Seth Ennis and Evan Cline were like the stars aligning. I remember finishing the demo and had tears in my eyes because it just felt so special, and it’s a side of a story I’ve never gotten to share in quite the way I wanted to. I hope everyone can feel that and relate to it in the way I do.”

Just after her debut country single “What If I Don’t” broke 10M streams on Spotify, the track was added to Spotify’s “Hot Country” Playlist, one of the platform's most popular playlists with over 7M followers including the top country hits of the week worldwide.

Keeping up with popular demand from her loyal fans, Shaylen released her single “Do It Right The First Time” — and after teasing it on her TikTok which gained over 725k views — the track caught the likes of Kelly Clarkson who featured Shaylen in her “#What I’m Liking” segment on NBC’s The Kelly Clarkson Show. Within the first week of release, “Do It Right The First Time” reached #34 on the iTunes Country Charts and #113 on the overall iTunes Charts with over 500k streams across DSPs, and was added to several playlists on Spotify and Apple Music.

The re-recording of the iconic No. 1 song, “Lips Of An Angel,” retains its original edgy rock elements and dynamic vocal prowess, while giving it a new country flare. PEOPLE Magazine exclusively premiered the track along with the accompanying hard-hitting official music video, directed by Sean Hagwell, upon its release. Leading up to the release, Shaylen and Austin gave listeners a look into the behind the scenes of the re-recording and the story behind the song with an artist-on-artist style conversation video (released August 16), as well as a teaser of the official music video set to accompany the single. The teaser — shared to Shaylen’s TikTok — quickly garnered over 900k views, a testament to the excitement building over the reimagined iconic song.

Born in Chattanooga, TN and raised in Dallas, Shaylen is no stranger to the world of country music. Growing up with the voices of icons from Elvis to Ella Fitzgerald and Willie Nelson to Janis Joplin floating through her home, Shaylen has been influenced by all genres of music from the very beginning. Her roots in the south are where her country and gospel influences came from and are the core of who she is as an artist.

After spending 10 years in Los Angeles, CA as a thriving pop artist with Republic Records, Shaylen found it was her time to come home. Garnering a strong fanbase and tens-of millions of streams from the slew of EPs and singles she released during her time there, Shaylen felt it was time to make the return back to her roots. “I really am thankful for my time in LA because it taught me so many different writing techniques I’ve learned over the years that I’m able to apply in my country music,” admits Shaylen. “I think being able to be submerged in the different cultures of music has been extremely helpful in how I write and sing all together. It’s actually crazy ‘cause switching to country [music] is the first time where I’ve truly felt like my most authentic true self. In fact, it feels far more clear than pop ever did.”

Although she’s made the jump from pop music to country, Shaylen has always used her music as an avenue for working through emotions and experiences in life, while staying true to herself. This upcoming body of work will take listeners on an emotional rollercoaster. “By the end of every song I hope listeners can resonate and apply their own stories to the songs and know that they can get through anything,” says Shaylen. As she settles into her new life in Nashville, Shaylen continues to tap into what feels right as her most genuine artistic self.
